Coach Bob Burchard looks forward to future of athletic department

Bob Burchard and the future of Columbia College athletics were highlighted in a recent article in one of the local newspapers in town. Burchard, who has been the athletic director at the college for 27 years, is overseeing the addition of five new sports by 2016. With new sports, that will bring new athletes (possibly up to 100). With more sports and more students, that could lead to more postseason tournaments, more tuition dollars and also the need for more space. Alumnus becomes school principal after Coast Guard career

The new principal of Valley High School in Dublin, California, is a Columbia College alumnus. Principal Thomas Orput had a career in the U.S. Coast Guard and used the “Troops to Teachers” scholarship program to achieve his degrees – the first of which was an associate degree from Columbia College-Coast Guard Island. After working as a middle school teacher, Orput eventually began serving in leadership positions in alternative education schools.
