Nicole HeyenColumbia College of Missouri, Freeport campus students Nicole Heyen (Freeport, I.) and Shawn Lipka (Dakota, Il.) recently were inducted into chapters of two national honors societies. The ceremony took place amongst family and friends at the Columbia College campus in Freeport. Campus Director Sarah Brinkmeier presented the awards.

“We are very proud of Nicole and Shawn for the outstanding effort they put forward on a session-to-session basis and for the example they provide for all of our students here at the Freeport campus,” Brinkmeier said. “Induction into these honors societies speaks volumes about their focus and commitment.”

Shawn LipkaHeyen, a senior human services major, was inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda. This society honors those dedicated adult students who achieve and maintain high scholastic standards while balancing work, family and community commitments. Members must have completed a minimum of twenty-four semester hours and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.2.

Lipka is working toward a degree in business administration and received the honor of being named to the Sigma Beta Delta society. Membership in this honored chapter is reserved for juniors and seniors who rank in the top 20 percent of their class with at least a 3.5 GPA, and have completed at least 30 credit hours at Columbia College toward their business administration degree. Sigma Beta Delta exists to encourage and recognize scholarship and achievement among students of business.
