Columbia College now offers the Family Members Opportunity Grant, which is awarded to dependents of active duty military members and dependents of those currently serving in the Active Guard and Reserves (AGR) program.
The grant covers the cost of tuition for one undergraduate, in-seat course, and was previously available only to spouses of military members. The grant is available to family members regardless of whether their military relative is affiliated with Columbia College.
“Providing a quality education to military learners is a hallmark of our institution,” said Mike Lederle, assistant dean for military and federal programs. “Based on the success of our Spouses Opportunity Grant, we decided to extend this grant to other military dependents as well, and we look forward to serving these individuals who play such an important role in our lives.”
More than 25 percent of Columbia College students either are servicemembers, veterans or their dependents.
“It’s our way of giving back,” Lederle said in an interview with the Columbia Missourian. “We’ve seen success in the fact that with grants, spouses have gone on to complete their education. We truly believe servicemembers need the opportunity to advance their education goals.”
