Columbia College Holiday LightingWinter is upon us, which means the campus has been preparing and decorating for the holiday season! Each year, the Columbia College main campus is illuminated by thousands of sparkling lights that shine through the season.

One of the college’s winter traditions is the Holiday Lighting ceremony, which this year will occur on Dec. 6.

For the first time, the college is integrating holiday concerts by the Jane Froman Singers. The performances, which will begin immediately after the lighting, will be held in Launer Auditorium, which is conveniently between the ceremony and reception locations.

With growing attendance, every year brings longer reception lines. If you want to limit your time spent out in the cold or waiting for seats to open up, attend the first performance of the Jane Froman Christmas Radio Hour! For your convenience, we have teamed up with Nollie Moore, director of the Jane Froman Singers, and AmeriServe’s Stephen Bay and Mark Althaus to enhance your holiday experience. Not only will a concert highlight your evening, but the food will be fully refreshed throughout the evening, so relax and enjoy with your family!

At the reception, Judy Shaw, instructor of music, will provide holiday piano tunes for those dining in Dulany. This year, the college is happy to introduce digital Santa photos to save on paper, energy and wait times. Cookie decorating, postcards to Santa and Scooter coloring books will be returning. Carriage rides will run from 5:30 – 8 p.m. around campus, and the Kirkman House will again be lit in animated lights that dance to holiday music playing on 106.5 FM. They will be on display each evening from 5 to 10 p.m. until the New Year.

The Holiday Lighting Ceremony will be at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 on Bass Commons. For those with windows facing Bass Commons, please remember to turn your lights out before the ceremony. The reception will follow at 5 p.m. in Dulany Hall. A 1940s Christmas Radio Hour with the Jane Froman Singers will be held at 5:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Launer Auditorium.

Please RSVP by Nov. 27 to or (573) 875-7541.
