Columbia College celebrates National Poetry Month with Favorite Poem Night.Whether by Langston Hughes or Dr. Seuss, Columbia College is inviting community members to share their favorite published poems in celebration of National Poetry Month on April 7.

Hosted by the college’s humanities department, Favorite Poem Night is an opportunity for members of the Columbia community of all ages to read their favorite published poem aloud to others, as well as share why the poem is meaningful to them. Among the poetry lovers sharing at the event will be Columbia College President Scott Dalrymple.

National Poetry Month began in 1996 and is celebrated every April around the world. Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets, National Poetry Month is the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries booksellers and poets marking the importance of poetry in society and culture.

All are invited to join in the celebration and sharing on Tuesday, April 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It is requested that the poetry presentations be kept under six minutes in length. Favorite Poem Night will take place in Dorsey Gym on the Columbia College campus. The event is free and open to the public.
