Each January, members of the college gather in historic Dorsey Gymnasium to celebrate Columbia College’s birthday, known as Charter Day. It was on Jan. 18, 1851, that Christian Female College received its charter from the Missouri State Legislature, making it the first college west of the Mississippi for women. With each generation, the college has remained a pioneer in education devoted to serving the underserved.
This year, we’ll celebrate 165 years of our prestigious Columbia College on Jan. 14 in Dorsey Gym with a brief presentation from 11-11:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.
President Scott Dalrymple, as well as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. David Starrett, will provide brief remarks. Additionally, the Jane Froman Singers will perform historic selections, and the Columbia College Archives will have a number of unique items from the college’s past on display.
This Charter Day celebration is sure to be special, so don’t miss it!
