Missouri Lawyers Media recently announced its distinguished “In-House Counsel of the Year” awards for 2017. Columbia College General Counsel Mark Falkowski was honored by the organization as a top lawyer in the nonprofit or government organization category.
“I’m extremely humbled by this honor and to be in the company of the other great attorneys who play such important roles within their organizations,” said Falkowski. “I am fortunate to be part of a great leadership team at Columbia College, proud of the work we do on a daily basis, and lucky to practice in the exciting higher education field.”
Falkowski is one of 22 attorneys who will be recognized by the statewide publication at an awards banquet at the Clayton Plaza Hotel in Clayton, Missouri, on November 3. He was the only attorney recognized from the Columbia, Missouri, area.
Falkowski became the college’s first general counsel in October 2016. Before joining Columbia College, he worked as an attorney at Husch Blackwell LLP in St. Louis, where he played a key role in the firm’s higher education practice, which provides legal guidance to more than 100 colleges and universities nationwide. Falkowski earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota in 2006 and completed his juris doctorate at Saint Louis University in 2010.
