In January, we here at Columbia College-St. Louis participated in the Cinderella Project, an extension of the Foster and Adoption Care Coalition. The Cinderella Project provides dresses to those in the St. Louis metropolitan area who cannot afford to purchase a formal gown to attend prom, along with those who are currently in foster care. We hosted a “dress drive” and received a total of 99 formal gowns and accessories. This event was facilitated by Bobbette Claxton, academic advisor II.
In February, we had our very first “vision board party.” We had a total of 40 students, staff, alumni, faculty and guests in attendance. It was a wonderful experience had by all. The vision board party was facilitated by our very own process coordinator, Brandy Roddy. We had many donations of magazines and other items to make the vision board party the success that it was. To see us all come together and share our goals and dreams with one another speaks volumes of our priority in relationship building. Moving forward, we will have scheduled vision board parties in the early session of every semester and at the request of faculty.
In March, we participated with Relay for Life to raise money for the American Cancer Society. We set a goal of $500 and exceeded that goal. Together, we raised a total of $501.21. It was the most raised of all of the Columbia College Nationwide locations. WE ARE #1! It warmed my heart to receive calls and emails from students and faculty on how to make donations for such a worthy cause. This event was facilitated by academic advisor Harmony Camden.
The events mentioned above are evidence that Columbia College-St. Louis creates great experiences with and for one another. We are definitely moving in the right direction. You all should be very proud of yourselves. This goes to show that we can do anything … TOGETHER.
This summer, we will introduce a social group, RELEASE, whose mission is to empower, inspire and support one another. More to come about this in the months ahead.
