Giving Day

Tuesday, April 23, will be an important day for Columbia College, as alumni, donors, friends and community members are encouraged to participate in the college’s inaugural Giving Day.

The event is a 24-hour fundraising initiative designed to inspire our entire college community to give to the Columbia College Fund, which supports functions of the college’s greatest needs. Among the numerous areas the fund has helped support include underwriting the $4 million in scholarships awarded to students every year, as well as enhancing the student experience with up-to-date resources and technology for our more than 20,000 students around the world, and the construction of New Hall, which will house 150 students and the Robert W. Plaster School of Business upon its opening this fall.

Kenzie Bennett, assistant director of donor relations and special projects, explained that it only takes one day for everyone associated with Columbia College to make a difference. “When the entire community comes together, it’s amazing what can happen,” she says. “There’s no minimum donation amount to participate; every gift of every size makes a difference to our students.”

To make a gift on April 23, simply visit, click the “Give Now” button on the home page, then follow the directions provided.

Development Officer Mitch Gosney ’13 encourages alumni, donors and friends of Columbia College to share and post about Giving Day on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #CCGivingDay. “Through our donation platform, we’re also encouraging people to issue challenges to their friends, or to match donations from Cougars around the world,” he says.

Participants can also use the platform to inspire other donors via the Giving Day page’s “Advocate” tab. Signed-in donors will receive a unique URL to share via social, text and email, and the site will keep track of clicks, donations and dollars generated by your link. The “Advocate” tab also allows you to create a video plea and a match.

In addition to raising funds to benefit students nationwide, participation makes a notable impact in other intangible areas: Because it is a marker of satisfaction in their alma mater, alumni giving in particular is a metric used by many publications in compiling college rankings.

While online donations will be the quickest way to give to Columbia College, gifts can also be made by mail or phone. To be included in the Giving Day campaign, gifts can be made in the days leading up to the event. To make a gift by phone, call (573) 875-7563; donations may also be mailed to:
