Last year at this time I was telling you that we had just moved to our homes for work. At that time we thought it would be just a little while and we would be back in the office. Boy, were we wrong! We are still working remotely but there is light at the end of the COVID tunnel! It appears that the Navy will be allowing us to return to our offices in June. Of course there will be lots of preparation to do before we can open back up. We will be following CDC guidelines and strict protocols will be followed.

Please call us for an appointment if you need to see our academic advisor, Joe Savopolos. We will be seeing students only by appointment. There will be no walk-ins allowed. Temperatures will be recorded and screening questions will be asked. Hand sanitizer will be required upon entry and face masks will be required at all times while in the office. We can’t wait to start seeing students again, but we will be careful about it.

Seat classes are still being offered in a virtual (Zoom) format. We will need to wait until the Navy gives the go-ahead to begin face-to-face classes. So for now, the summer semester classes will be held in a virtual Zoom format.

Remember that if you enroll yourself in classes, you MUST also enroll yourself in a payment plan after you enroll. If you leave out that step, the system will take you out of the classes. But the good news is that I will see the deregistration on the registration report the next day and send you an email to re-enroll.

We want to give a shout out to our Fall Semester Dean’s List students! Congratulations go out to Jonette Celeste Ancheta, Amber Antiporda, Jonathan Echevarria, Natacha Firman, Ruth Gaillou, Riccardo Luis Gonzales, Amanda Goudberg, Daesia Jameslouis, Rodgelee Jameslouis, Ana Martinez, Khalil Richards, Meridith Shivers, and Jonathon Szymczak. Keeping up high grades in these difficult times is quite a testament to the dedication of these students. Hats off to them!

If you are active duty, keep in mind that the TA deadline for the Late Summer session will be June 14. The session begins June 28. If you know what class(es) you want to enroll in now, go ahead and route your TA request.

Some of you may be wondering about graduation this year. Last year at this time I thought we would be able to have a ceremony in 2021. But the pandemic had another idea. Unfortunately, face-to-face ceremonies for our extension campuses have been cancelled once again. There is discussion about a virtual ceremony this summer, but at the time of this writing, a date has not been decided yet. Stay tuned for more information about the virtual graduation ceremony.

Please continue to follow CDC guidelines to keep yourself and your loved ones safe and healthy. As we get a handle on curbing the spread of COVID-19,hopefully the remainder of 2021 will begin to look a little more normal. Have a great summer session! Also, don’t forget to read the rest of the articles in this month’s newsletter in the column on the right!
