More than likely, no one envisioned a situation where Whidbey Island staff would be working remotely for 15 months and counting. No one could have guessed the length of time staff would be away or how much we would miss our interaction with students and prospects!

Thank you to all the students who adjusted to our new reality and emailed, called, or texted, to register as we migrated from in-seat education to the Zoom environment. However, bumpy the changeover, the educational wheels continued with classes in Zoom or online, VA certifications processed, TA collected, degree plans created, and diplomas awarded.

Much of the work to keep the wheels spinning was done behind the scenes with staff from almost all divisions of the main campus, especially Technology Services going all in to make sure systems would work as required. We are grateful to students and staff as we transitioned to Zoom classes to meet our new reality.

So now what? Well my crystal ball is still a bit foggy as we watch the COVID pandemic management nationwide! It is certain there will be challenges and it is certain the staff will return to Whidbey Island, just when and how, and to what extent needs to be determined? The lesson we learned from the COVID pandemic was if one path is blocked find another and keep going! Yes, this has been a very trying time! Yes, we have all had to re-adjust and re-think our priorities! Yes, we are all not superhuman, we have had to step-back, re-adjust, and realign our goals. So when you know which path you need to follow, do not forget your educational goals and call us to talk about your new reality. Whether taking classes or enjoying our glorious summers, keep your educational goal in mind. We truly hope to see you in person, if not, remember there are many paths to your goal. Keep going! Also, don’t forget to read the rest of the articles in this month’s newsletter in the column on the right!
