Columbia College Director and Chair of Nursing Dr. Corrine Floyd has appointed Melissa Pickett as instructor of Nursing and ASN coordinator of the college’s location at the Lake of the Ozarks. Pickett will partner closely with the location’s director, Ashley Brown, to maintain the level of excellence and service the nursing program has provided the region for more than 20 years.
“Melissa brings a wealth of experience and education to help prepare our students in completing their Associate in Science in Nursing (ASN) degree,” said Floyd. “Her expertise and leadership will provide our students with cohesive interaction, collaboration and student-centered care at our Lake of the Ozarks location. Melissa is an excellent addition to our growing program and we’re thrilled she has joined our department!”
Pickett brings more than 30 years of experience in healthcare to the position, including ten years of practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). In her role as an Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist-BC, she conducted primary care with medication management and wound care to adult and geriatric populations in the hospital, long-term care, assisted living care, and clinic settings.
“I’m very excited and fortunate to join Columbia College within the community I reside,” said Pickett. “I attended classes at this location and have witnessed firsthand the college grow exponentially. I’m eager to teach students interested in nursing and healthcare and provide new programs to meet the growing needs of our respective community.”
Pickett’s teaching experience includes certified nurse assistant training, certified medication assistant training, insulin administration training, licensed practical nurse program, and Geriatrics for the Accelerated Nursing program at the University of Missouri. She currently practices nursing on the psychiatric unit at St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City, Missouri.
“We’re incredibly excited to add someone with Melissa’s high-level experience and continue to enhance our first-class nursing program,” said Brown. “This addition further reinforces our location’s commitment to providing access to exceptional higher education to the Lake of the Ozarks community.”
Pickett earned both a Master of Science in Nursing in 2009, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2005 from the University of Missouri. Additionally, she achieved an Associate in Nursing from St. Mary’s College of O’Fallon/St. Charles Community College in 1991. Pickett is also board certified as an Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist.
