The Heart of Missouri United Way held its 2022 Campaign Kick-Off and Day of Caring on Columbia College’s main campus on Thursday, September 1. In conjunction with those events, more than 20 volunteers from across the college, including CC president Dr. David Russell, gathered in Dorsey Gym to assemble more than 400 care kits.
The kits included wellness and hygiene products, snacks, water bottles and other items that will be distributed to one of the Heart of Missouri United Way’s 31 partner organizations. The campus event was organized by the college’s representative to the United Way Board, Senior Director of Philanthropy Missy Montgomery.
“We know when we give back as a campus community, we reinforce the positive aspects of our college culture,” said Montgomery. “Today, we celebrated how the Heart of Missouri United Way helps the most vulnerable members of our communities in mid-Missouri.”
The college was one of many community partners that supported the United Way’s efforts in this initiative, teaming to create more than 2,250 kits containing more than 20,000 individual items. CC will also be hosting its annual Walking Taco fundraising event to benefit the United Way on Wednesday, November 2. Last year, this popular event raised more than $10,800 for the organization.
