Following a pair of Homecoming celebrations limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Columbia College community was eager to return to “normal” festivities on its main campus last week. CC’s 2022 Homecoming featured several activities, offering fun and memorable moments for students, faculty, staff, alumni and extended members of the college family.

“Homecoming 2022 truly highlighted the CC pride that our students, staff, alumni and community feel,” said Coordinator of Center for Student Leadership Marina Turner. “From students painting Cougar paw prints around campus to participating in the fifth annual Color Run to enjoying a fun-filled festival, the spirit of our campus was alive and thriving. Cheers to yet another amazing Silver & Blue, Through & Through Homecoming 2022!”

This year’s bash opened with a new tradition, as students gathered across main campus for “Paint the Paws.” In front of CC landmarks and each residential hall, classmates painted navy blue paw prints in honor of the college’s mascot, Scooter the Cougar. Monday’s activities also included the beginning of the Office Decorating Contest, as departments across the college displayed their Cougar pride. At the end of the week, the career services & international services center was awarded first place for their outstanding design.

Tuesday evening brought one of CC Homecoming’s most anticipated events each year, as the Color Run saw students race throughout campus donned in white T-shirts and were later greeted by their peers with an array of colorful chalk. The grand finale saw everyone meet at Miller Lawn and launch the remaining chalk toward the sky for a picturesque conclusion.

Wednesday and Thursday night featured a pair of relaxing events among classmates, including the Campus Activity Board Movie & Bonfire and Ice Cream Social on the Quad. Excitement on campus was evident, as more than 200 students enjoyed the events.

Thursday evening was also Columbia College Athletics’ annual Hall of Fame ceremony, as Devin Griffin ’14 (men’s basketball), Jamie Holmes ’14 (softball) and the 2003 men’s soccer team were enshrined into the prestigious society.

Friday afternoon brought a flurry of activity to the Quad, as food trucks, live music, lawn games and inflatables highlighted the Homecoming Festival. Shortly after, students trekked to Southwell Arena for a Cougars women’s volleyball contest. The home crowd was treated to a CC sweep, extending the team’s impressive winning streak to 14.

During the matchup, Coronation was held, and the Homecoming Court and Royalty were officially revealed. Addison Martino, Katie Redington, Ashton Trimmer, Felicite Plemmons, Ashley Lasiter, Lizzie Ham and Zyeon Oatts were all recognized for being named to this year’s court, while Trimmer and Oatts were awarded distinguished Royalty recognition.

The entire CC community turned out in droves Saturday morning for Festivities on the Quad, as families and friends mingled and enjoyed a beautiful mid-Missouri fall day. Attendees were able to tour the college’s archives in Dorsey Hall, observe the latest art exhibit in Brown Hall and enjoy a delicious barbecue-themed tailgate on the Quad.

CC Homecoming officially completed Saturday evening in downtown Columbia at the Broadway Hotel. The popular Fall Formal brought students together for a night of dancing and celebration in their finest semi-formal/cocktail attire.
