Maddie Burton is a woman of many talents.

Originally from Huntsville, Missouri, Maddie came to Columbia College looking for a place where she could truly grow.

After earning her bachelor’s in Business Administration in April 2025, Maddie returns to CC to work toward her MBA while continuing to balance her many roles. From the track to the business world, Maddie approaches every opportunity with determination, energy and purpose.

Why Columbia College’s School of Business?

Columbia College checked every box: strong academics, small class sizes and a community that truly supports its students. A combination of academic and athletic scholarships made CC a smart choice financially, but it was the welcoming campus and meaningful connections that made it feel like the right fit.

“This intimate setting has allowed me to genuinely connect with my professors and fellow students, fostering an environment where I feel seen and supported academically,” shared Maddie. “I’ve consistently felt that my potential and opportunities are truly nurtured here.”

That strong sense of support is what led Maddie to continue her education at CC.

A Leader On and Off the Field

Maddie’s achievements as a three-time national qualifier in javelin and competitor in long and triple jump reflect more than athletic skill. They showcase her discipline, time management and mental toughness.

Off the field, Maddie’s leadership is just as powerful. She co-founded the CC Financial Futures Club, a student-led organization that helps members gain real-world financial knowledge through engaging discussions on budgeting, investing and personal finance. Open to students of all majors, the club empowers peers to take control of their financial futures.

In addition, Maddie served as a student ambassador, where she welcomed prospective students to campus and shared what makes Columbia College unique. Her involvement in both the ambassador program and Financial Futures reflects her initiative for growth. Her drive to lead and make an impact defines her success inside and outside the classroom.

Career Goals in Motion

In addition to her involvement on campus, Maddie works at EquipmentShare as part of the sales recruiting team, where she assists with interviews, process improvements and hiring efforts.

She credits Columbia College’s business school for equipping her with the confidence and skills to thrive professionally.

“Undergraduate courses refined my business knowledge and ignited my interest in finance and economics,” she said. “The annual Career Fair led to valuable internships that directly influenced my career path.”

Looking ahead, Maddie plans to use her organizational, business, and financial knowledge to purchase her first rental property and begin her journey in real estate investing.

The Balancing Act

So how does she do it all: school, sports, a career and a social life?

“It takes discipline and planning. I rely on time management, organization and staying consistent with my priorities.”

She encourages new students to embrace the experience fully.

“Step out of your comfort zone, explore your interests and stay true to yourself. College is your time to grow, so don’t let fear hold you back.”

Maddie Burton proves that with determination, energy and purpose, balance is possible. At Columbia College’s School of Business, she found the space to grow and made every moment count.
