The Academic Achievement Center (AAC), which includes the Elizabeth Toomey Seabrook Writing Center and the Ether L. Bruce Math Center, stands as a powerful ally in a student’s journey, offering free, high-quality support that builds skills, confidence and academic momentum.

Together, these tutoring centers support CC students on the main campus in Columbia, Missouri, and online across a wide range of subjects including math, writing, science, accounting, finance and more. Whether students are writing their first college paper or tackling a tough math concept, the AAC provides the tools and guidance they need to succeed both in the classroom and beyond.
“AAC tutors are experienced educators who are capable of bringing a personal touch to helping students succeed in their academic pursuits at CC,” said Jerry Brenner, director of the Academic Achievement Center.
Writing help that builds confidence
At the Seabrook Writing Center, students can get help at any stage of the writing process:
- Brainstorming and outlining
- Drafting and revising
- Formatting and citation (MLA, APA, Chicago)
- Grammar, punctuation and clarity
Whether it’s a research paper, discussion post or personal statement, tutors work alongside students to elevate their writing without taking over the work. The focus is on building skills, not just fixing errors.
“At the Seabrook Writing Center, we believe every student has something valuable to say,” said Writing Center Coordinator Tahna Long. “Our job is to help them say it with clarity and confidence. Watching someone go from uncertain to empowered, from overwhelmed to capable, is why we do this work.”
Math & STEM tutoring made accessible
Struggling with calculus or chemistry? The Bruce Math Center offers tutoring in:
- Algebra, statistics and calculus
- Accounting and finance
- Chemistry, biology and physics
- Computer Science and American Sign Language (ASL)
Tutors don’t just provide answers. They help students learn how to think critically, solve problems step by step and approach assignments with confidence. It’s about mastering the material, not memorizing it.

- Virtual one-on-one appointments and drop-in sessions with AAC tutors via Zoom
- Additional online tutoring available 24 /7 through NetTutor
