There are two quotes that have guided me throughout my career as a photographer. One by Ansel Adams: “You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” And one from Yousuf Karsh: “The heart and mind are the true lens of the camera.”
As the college’s photographer, I am offered little windows into the kaleidoscope of our Columbia College community. As I make images, the everlasting challenge is to capture the spirit, the energy, the mundane and the spectacular, of a diverse, complex and uniquely special institution.
This collection of images from Fall 2025 attempts to do just that. From the energy of Welcome Week to the milestones of Commencement, these images highlight the people at the heart of Columbia College: students, faculty and staff united by a shared commitment to learning and growth.
Together, these images tell the story of a semester shaped by connection, creativity and community. I hope they inspire reflection, nostalgia and pride in all that we’ve accomplished together — and most importantly, that the care and heart behind each image is felt as you view them.
