The Black Business Expo has continued to expand since its launch in 2019, evolving into a key space for Black- and minority-owned businesses, said Jonathon Moberly, dean of Columbia College’s Robert W. Plaster School of Business.
This year’s expo was held Saturday, Jan. 31, at Columbia College’s Southwell Complex. The event featured more than 64 minority-owned businesses from across mid-Missouri, including a bakery, sweets vendor, candle maker, bartender and apparel shops.
Hosted through a partnership between Columbia College and the James and Annelle Whitt Entrepreneurial Development Foundation, the expo now draws businesses and attendees from across mid-Missouri and beyond.
“This event started back in 2019,” Moberly said. “It started as basically a way for Black- and minority-owned businesses, particularly who are in the beginning stages, to have a place to come and have a table and be able to interact with potential customers.”
