Jeannie Rulo ’00 ’18 is a two-time graduate of Columbia College who completed degrees through Columbia College Global and the Online Program.
She earned an associate degree in General Studies and later returned for a bachelor’s degree in American Studies.
A state employee in Missouri for nearly two decades, Rulo is a member of the Columbia College Alumni Association Advisory Council. She and her partner, Jerry Shannon, are members of the Columbia College Cornerstone Club annual giving society. The couple lives near Centertown, Missouri.

What originally drew you to Columbia College?
When I began my journey with CC, I was a single mom with two children, and the wages I was earning as a clerk-typist were never enough. I knew I had to earn a degree to take care of my family. CC was there as I began my studies with the evening program in Jefferson City.
How would you describe your experience as a student here?
I was a non-traditional student and due to a scholarship opportunity, I was able to attend classes during the day at our home campus when I was 35 years old! Every person I came in contact with made me feel so welcome and deserving.
Can you share a bit about your career journey since graduating from CC?
I am employed by the State of Missouri. During my career, I have worked primarily in compliance. In my 19 years I have worked for eight departments and made my way to a salary I am so very proud of! I finally have enough.
What inspired you to join the CCAA Advisory Council?
I was invited to join the Council by former Alumni Relations Director Ann Merrifield. I was honored to be given the opportunity to serve the college! My time on the Council has only strengthened my deep affinity for CC.
What does being a graduate of Columbia College mean to you?
Being a graduate of Columbia College is the absolute best! My photo from my graduation day documents the best day of my life! I view the world so different now; my degree is priceless.
What keeps you busy in your free time?
I enjoy reading, researching my family genealogy, and taking road trips near and far with my partner, Jerry, to learn more of our history as a state and a nation.
