Columbia College dedicated the Barbara J. Bilger Family Nursing Program at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, Sept. 24, at Federal Hall.
The college announced it is renaming the program to honor what it called “one of the most significant philanthropic investments in school history” from Barbara J. Bilger, a graduate of the Class of 1962, to its nursing program.
According to a news release from the college, Bilger’s “transformational” gift will create an endowed fund to support the long-term success of the program and fund scholarships for nursing students.
Bilger said in the release that she hopes her gift will make an impact on current and future nurses.
The ceremony was held on the steps of Federal Hall and featured guest speakers, according to the release. Following the ribbon-cutting, attendees were able to tour the newly renovated, 34,000-square-foot building that includes a modern simulation lab, more classroom space and new technology to help students prepare for the real world.
