As we begin a new year, COVID-19 is still very prominent in our lives. The changing reality of the pandemic has made focusing on work and classes difficult for many. All of our students work hard to attain a degree, and very few of these journeys are easy.

Baseball requires strategy, skill, discipline and focus from every player in order to create a winner. The people here in Elgin parallel the very strategies that make baseball the great sport it is.

The start of each session is a fitting time to not only reflect on past achievements, but identify our goals for the future. We’re cheering you toward success, but also encouraging you to think about what has prevented you from reaching goals in the past.

With all that has happened over the past year, it’s hard to craft upbeat narratives. Like most everyone, what can I say about 2020 without breathing a heavy sigh? Yet as we begin 2021, I am hopeful.
